Narrator: In the Perceptual and Motor Development domain, the strand Motor Development includes the foundation Fine Motor Development. Children from 23 through 36 months use both hands together to manipulate objects and tools in complex, precise ways to accomplish tasks.

Text on screen: Uses both hands in intricate ways to accomplish tasks

On screen: 29-month-old Zaira sits at a table holding a banana in one hand. She begins to peel it with her other hand as she speaks with her caregivers in Spanish.

Zaira: Milk, I do want some.

Caregiver 1: You do want milk, okay.

On screen: Zaira peels one piece of peel off her banana and places it on the table.

Caregiver 1: Yes. They’ll bring your cup now. Your cup.

On screen: Zaira takes the rest of the peel off the banana and puts it on the table. She uses both hands to bring it to her mouth and takes a bite. Then she places the banana on the table with one hand.

On screen: 32-month-old Sheridan sits on a couch. She notices the zipper at the top of her jacket. She holds one side of her jacket with one hand then she uses the fingers on her other hand to pull the zipper all the way down. She uses both hands to open her jacket.

Sheridan: (singing)

On screen: 32-month-old Jet stands at a sensory bin holding a small toy excavator in his hands. He uses his hands to make the excavator pick up kinetic sand.

Jet: Beep beep.

On screen: He uses two hands to move the excavator and open it to drop the sand on the table. Then he repeats the process.

Jet: Beep.

On screen: Jet puts down the excavator and uses one hand to pick up the pile of sand he made. He uses both hands to roll it into a ball.

Jet: Beep beep. Beep. Hey, there’s something inside.

On screen: Jet reaches into the sensory bin and pulls out a plastic ladybug.
