Text on screen: Looks for objects hidden in front of them

On screen: 11-month-old Olaseni kneels at the base of a carpeted ramp. He holds onto the side of the ramp with his left hand and has a nubby ball in his right hand. A caregiver is visible sitting several feet behind him in another part of the room.

Olaseni: (quiet vocalizing)

On screen: Olaseni pushes the ball back and forth with his right hand. He lets go of it when it is tucked alongside the side rail of the ramp. He scoots along the front of the ramp until he’s at the other edge. He looks toward the caregiver.

Caregiver 1: Hey (inaudible).

Olaseni: (vocalizing)

Caregiver 1: Do you want to go on a walk?

On screen: Olaseni scoots back across the front of the ramp. He’s looking for something. He looks over the side rail of the ramp and spots the ball he left there. He picks it up and begins playing with it again.

On screen: 7-month-old Kaia sits in a feeding chair secured to a table. A silicone potholder rests upright on the table in front of her. Kaia reaches out and knocks the potholder over. She picks it up and drops it on the floor. She leans over the side of her chair looking for the potholder where it fell.

Kaia: (Grunting and vocalizing)

Caregiver 2: Did it fall down? Huh, did it fall down?

On screen: A caregiver walks around the table and bends down.

Caregiver 2: Here, let me get you some more.

On screen: She picks up the potholder and a spatula and places them back on the table. Kaia begins to play with both objects.

Caregiver 2: There you go.

Example 3

On screen: 11-month-old Rowan sits on the floor mouthing at a large nesting cup. He is facing away from his caregiver. Another child sits facing the caregiver. The caregiver tosses a blanket over a block lying on the floor.

Caregiver 3: (gasping) Where did it go?

On screen: Rowan turns toward the caregiver. The caregiver pulls the blanket off the block, laying it across her lap.

Caregiver 3: Hi! Uh-oh.

On screen: As Rowan turns, he drops his cup. The caregiver picks it up. She takes out a smaller cup nested inside it. She sets the large cup on the floor upside down.

Caregiver 3: That one cup.

On screen: Then she lifts it and hides the smaller cup under it.

Caregiver 3: Look, we’ll put the red cup inside of the orange cup.

On screen: (gasping) Rowan reaches out and lifts the large nesting cup.

Caregiver 3: Where is it? You found it!

On screen: Rowan puts the large cup back down to hide the small cup again.

Caregiver 3: You put it back?

On screen: Rowan lifts and replaces the large cup two more times.

Caregiver 3: There it goes! Can you do it again? There it goes! You found it!
